Staff Dress Code
According to Islamic teachings, modesty in dress is an important tenet of one’s faith. EPIC staff (teaching and non-teaching) are role models to our students and must therefore lead by example at all times.
All clothing worn by staff (male and female) must be loose fitting, non-transparent and modest. All students, parents, teachers and staff members are required to obey Islamic teachings regarding dress while on school premises. At all times, dress should be of the highest possible standard.
General Expectations
Staff are expected to present themselves as professionals and adhere strictly to school policy. Physical Education teachers are the only exception and may wear tracksuits and runners appropriate to their role.
Male Staff
According to Islamic teachings, a male teacher must cover what is between his navel and knees at all times while in public.
During school hours and official functions, male teaching staff are required to wear formal business attire. This includes business shirts, formal trousers, and ties. Jeans, jean-style trousers, shorts, sandals, slippers or thongs are not permitted. Clothing and footwear must be suitable for an office environment. Suits and ties are expected.
Female Staff
According to Islamic teachings, female staff are expected to cover their whole body except for their face, hands and feet. As role models to our students, female staff are required to wear a hijab or appropriate head covering and ensure their chest area is covered at all times. Dress and footwear must be of a professional office standard.
General Wear Requirements
All clothing must be loose fitting and non see-through. Acceptable options include:
- Full length skirt with a long top, or a full length dress
- Wide-legged trousers worn with a knee-length top
- Closed shoes are required for occupational health and safety reasons
Sandals, slippers or thongs are not permitted under any circumstances.
